Mother of Abominations

Description of Work

The script is in a collection of chapters, each on its own page. Some chapters are three words, some fill the front and back of the page. For the first fifteen minutes, the pages are scattered on the floor, and the audience is invited to graze through the pile, reading as they go. The performer enters to sing, but collapses on the ground. The audience is instructed to help her. She needs help standing, she needs to be brought outside, she needs to drink, and when she spills on herself, she needs help changing. Between the times when she needs care, she will read a page from the pile at random. We all hear a sampling of the story of Amber, and her sexual miasma, and her declining health, and her fragmentary relationship with memory and truth. The story always ends the same way.
